It's almost Election Day, but many in Kentucky have decided to vote in early 2024, and more than 650,000 across the commonwealth are visiting the polls to cast their ballots early.

On Thursday, the first day of widespread early voting, more than 225,000 Kentuckians voted early, Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams said, and the number doubled by the end of Friday. Here's what we know about early voting in the Commonwealth.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and other prominent Kentucky Democrats encouraged people to vote at Saturday's “Get Out The Vote” rally in Louisville.

According to a post by Adams on X, 455,640 Kentuckians voted early Thursday and Friday. Friday's voter turnout (229,944) was slightly higher than Thursday's total (225,696).

In previous years, first-day early voting numbers were significantly lower compared to Thursday's numbers, with about 57,000 in 2020 and about 82,000 in 2022, Adams announced.

On Saturday the numbers were lower, with just under 201,000 voters. Adams stated in the post that more than 790,000 votes were cast in the 2024 election across all voting types.

How many voted in Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties, which are closest to Cincinnati?

Here are the early voting numbers for the three Kentucky counties closest to Cincinnati — Boone, Campbell and Kenton — according to county officials:

Boone County

  • Total: 19,257
  • 3-day no-excuse in-person absentee voting: 17,672
  • 6-Day Excused In-Person Absentee Voting: 1,585
  • Mail in: 3,385 (70% response rate)

Campbell County

  • Total: 13,363
  • 3-day no-excuse in-person absentee voting: 12,581
  • 6-Day Excused In-Person Absentee Voting: 782
  • Mail in: 2,375 (86% response rate)

Kenton County

  • Total: 31,256
  • 3-day no-excuse in-person absentee voting: 30,411
  • 6-Day Excused In-Person Absentee Voting: 845
  • Mail in: 4,761 (79% response rate)

More Republican early voters than Democrats in Kentucky

Adams said in a post that of the more than 656,000 Kentuckians who voted early, 52.6% were registered Republicans, compared to 40.3% registered Democrats and 7.1% registered Independents.

However, these numbers do not necessarily mean that Kamala Harris or Donald Trump received the corresponding number of votes in the presidential election campaign.
