CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – It's a first alert weather day through Friday evening as the remnants of Hurricane Helene continue to move across our region.

There is a risk of a rapid tornado intensification through Friday evening as some of the heavier rain bands move quickly northeast.

There is a risk of flooding this evening. Be aware of flood-prone areas and never drive through floodwaters.

The wind will also be gusty. The wind is strongest at higher altitudes. Wind gusts of up to 80 km/h are expected until Friday evening.

Weather conditions will begin to improve late Friday evening and Saturday. Most of Saturday will be dry, warmer and sunnier.

The chance of rain returns on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Friday afternoon and evening: Rain, heavy at times. Local storms possible. Highs in the 70s. Lows in the 60s as rain falls overnight.

Saturday: Dry, warmer and sunnier. Highs will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s. Lows in the 60s.

Sunday: Rain showers return in the afternoon. Highs in the 70s. Lows in the 60s.

Monday: Rainy with high temperatures in the lower 70s.
