The National Hurricane Center is currently monitoring a number of systems, including Tropical Depression 18, which formed Monday morning.

Tropical Depression 18:

According to the NHC, Tropical Depression 18 is expected to develop into Tropical Storm Rafael on Monday afternoon or night.

Development is expected as the system moves northwest with maximum sustained winds of about 35 mph.

The tropical system is expected to remain west of Florida in the Gulf of Mexico, move near Jamaica late Monday evening, pass over the Cayman Islands on Tuesday and approach Cuba on Wednesday.

Although the system is not expected to have a direct impact on the state, Central Florida is expected to feel some of its impacts this week, including gusty winds and heavy rain.

Southwest Atlantic:

According to the NHC, a low pressure area could develop in the northern Leeward Islands in the next few days.

Slow development of this system is possible as it moves westward across the Southwest Atlantic.

The system has a zero percent chance of development in the next 48 hours and a 20 percent chance in the next seven days.

Remains of Patty:

In short, Tropical Storm Patty originally formed as a disturbance and later developed into a subtropical storm.

As the system grew, it briefly developed into Tropical Storm Patty but quickly dissipated over the northeastern Atlantic.
