Former President Donald Trump's visit to Austin on Friday is expected to cause traffic delays in the area.

The City of Austin has warned residents of possible road closures and traffic delays, particularly on routes to and from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

Officials expect all lanes of Highway 71 will be closed between Highway 183 and Woodward Street near St. Edward's University, including access roads. The same goes for Highway 183 between Highway 71 and Burleson Road near the airport.

Closures are not expected to impact I-35.

The city today released the following tips for getting around Austin:

  • Allow extra time for travel and plan alternative routes to avoid delays.
  • Use public transport if possible. However, please note that some routes may be adjusted due to road closures.
  • Avoid parking along the route.

Officials are also asking commuters to be patient while on the route. Anyone who needs to be at the airport this afternoon is asked to plan alternative routes and allow sufficient time for arrival.
