MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota Vikings standout rookie kicker Will Reichard will reportedly be placed on injured reserve after missing two kicks on Sunday Victory over the Indianapolis Colts. The team signed a familiar face to replace him.

According to NFL Network, the Vikings are signing John Parker Romo, who competed with Reichard in Vikings training camp last offseason.

Reichard was perfect on the season before Sunday, when he missed a 53-yarder and a 31-yarder.

Special teams coordinator Matt Daniels said the quadriceps injury Reichard was dealing with was not responsible for the misses. He felt his quadriceps tighten after hitting his first extra point of the game, which came after the two missed field goals. The Vikings still defeated the Colts 21-13.

“Man, this guy is tough. He managed to fight through and get through the game, was still able to hit the kickoff balls we needed from him, and still managed to score two more extra points that contributed to us,” Daniels said.

A stint on IR means Reichard will miss at least four games.

“He's done an incredible job so far and he'll continue to do so,” special teams coordinator Matt Daniels said Tuesday. “His confidence is unwavering, it will always be there, supreme confidence.”

Romo played for the San Antonio Brahmas of the XFL 17/19 in 2023, with his longest kick being a 57-yarder. The Vikings renounced him in July.

The The Vikings drafted Reichard left Alabama in the sixth round of the NFL draft in April.

Viking long snapper Andrew DePaolo will need a trial on his hand, Daniels said, so the Vikings will have to make a move at that position as well.
