The Wadsworth volleyball team will face North Canton Hoover in the Division II regional semifinals at Hudson on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Wadsworth (22-2, 14-0) already has a Suburban League National Conference championship and a district title. Regional and state crowns are the next targets.

“The girls work really hard,” second-year Wadsworth coach Allyson Wines said. “They talk about their goals all summer long and then they broke that bigger goal down into smaller goals and they worked hard and worked hard.

“We are very open and honest with each other. If someone has an off game, we know that's going to happen and we're okay with that. It's about how we respond and who's going to be next. “I'm really proud of the way they're all constantly contributing.”

Where does Wadsworth rank in the Ohio girls volleyball rankings?

Wadsworth is No. 4 in the MaxPreps.com Division II Top 25 girls volleyball rankings and No. 13 regardless of division. The Grizzlies are also ranked No. 4 in the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association Division II poll.

“It’s been great this season,” Wadsworth senior Reese Kelly said. “I love playing with these girls. They are so much fun. We just have a great time when we're on the pitch. I'm excited and sad at the same time that the season is coming to an end. I'm looking forward to the postseason run.”

Wadsworth won two games each against Hudson, Brecksville, Nordonia, Stow, Twinsburg, Solon and North Royalton to win the overall SLNC championship that season. The Grizzlies earned a share of the league title the last two seasons.

Who are the best players on the Wadsworth girls volleyball team?

Reese Kelly and her sister, junior Rowan Kelly, are two of Wadsworth's best players.

Wadsworth's other regulars on the court are seniors Karley Allwood and Maddie Blackburn, juniors Lauren Decker, Lilly McComas, Emily Snyder and Riley Ishee, and freshman Quinn Macko.

Rowan Kelly has committed to play volleyball at Ohio University and Allwood has committed to play at Marietta. Colleges also recruit Decker and Reese Kelly.

“We train really hard and we’ve all been a tight-knit group of girls since my freshman year,” Decker said. “We all play together in the club (with the Nova Juniors) so our connection is pretty strong.”

Depending on their age, Decker and Rowan Kelly play on one of the Nova Juniors teams and Blackburn and Reese Kelly play on another Nova Juniors team.

Wadsworth finished 20-4 last season, defeating Revere in a Division I district final and losing to Cleveland St. Joseph Academy in a district final.

Wadsworth's only losses this season are to Hoban (25-0) and Avon (22-2). Hoban is ranked No. 1 in Division III in the MaxPreps.com and OHSVCA polls. In Division II, Avon is No. 3 in the OHSVCA poll and No. 6 in the MaxPreps.com poll.

“I think we’re similar to last year’s team with our work ethic and our mindset,” Rowan Kelly said. “We treat each other really positively. We know how good we are and how far we can go.”
