Weather forecast: More rain is expected on Tuesday

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Rain will continue tonight. Due to excessive rainfall in recent days, further flooding could occur if there is heavy rain. Additional rainfall of up to 2.5 centimeters is possible in the next 48 hours, with higher amounts possible locally.

This comes after excessive rainfall in Helene, which brought up to 12 inches of rain to the region last week.

The rain is due to Helene's remains remaining in the area. This low pressure area will move eastward during the day on Tuesday, while a cold front moves through on Wednesday. Beyond that we will finally experience drier conditions again. But until that happens, the chances of rain will remain.

We then need to keep an eye on the tropics as two potential areas could form next week. It is still too early to say whether these will impact the region. The probability of a wave forming in the Caribbean Sea is 40 percent and a wave off the coast of Africa is 90 percent.

There is an active storm in the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Kirk. For now it looks like it will remain over the open waters of the Atlantic.

As clouds continue across the region, temperatures will remain below average on Tuesday. Many areas will start the day with temperatures in the upper 60s and climb to the upper 70s in the afternoon.

Next week, high temperatures will remain in the upper 70s, except for Saturday, where low 80s are expected. Low temperatures will be in the 50s and 60s.
