What Stephen Vogt said after the Guardians' loss in ALCS Game 4

Q Have you considered sending Giancarlo Stanton there in the sixth inning with first base open?

STEPHEN VOGT: No, I didn't. We have Cade on the mound. He's the best strikeout reliever we have, and in this situation I trust Cade to make pitches there. He does this all year round.

Q You had him 0-2. What happened?

STEPHEN VOGT: It looked like he just couldn't quite get the fastball right and Stanton did.

Q Their bullpen has been great all year. Do you think they are tired?

STEPHEN VOGT: I mean, everyone is tired. I think we used them a lot. We had. That's what we are. I thought Cade showed a little bit today, but even though he was tired he did great for us and you have to give them credit for that. They gave him good swings, made him work and just didn't go our way.

Q What do you think of Gavin Williams and his start? Of course they quickly get two, but as a whole?

STEPHEN VOGT: Yeah, I thought Gavin had trouble landing his off-speed and they got to his fastball.

He was starting to look a little better there, but at that point in the game I just felt like we had to go to Sabrowski there. But kudos to Gavin, 25 days off is not easy and he has achieved some benefits for us.

Q Were you encouraged by what you saw from Josh Naylor tonight with two pretty big base hits?

STEPHEN VOGT: Naylz was a big doppelganger who was huge. That's what I love about this team. They don't give up. It would have been really easy if Cade had given up the three-run home run so we could just get out and walk away, but that's not what this group does. And even there, in the ninth inning, we had two hitters. We had a chance to swing the bat and win the game. That's this team, and that's what we'll be again tomorrow.

Q Emmanuel Clase has been automatic all year. What have you seen in the last two games?

STEPHEN VOGT: Yes, I don't think I've looked into it in depth yet. Today I felt like the ball was just flowing back over the middle and to their credit they put in a great attack on it over the last two days.

That's what the Yankees do really well. You go really well against your pitchers and then throw throws over the middle. They don't miss it and they've really capitalized on it.

With Emmanuel, I think the ball went just a little bit over the middle and they were able to score some runs.

Q When Jhonkensy Noel hit the ball into the left corner, did you think it was gone?

STEPHEN VOGT: I thought he hit the jackpot in the end. I thought maybe he had enough to make it off the wall. I knew it wasn't going to be a home run. I thought it might get into this little sloping wall. Verdugo played a nice game. It looked like it was about 1.5 meters away from hitting the wall.

Q This is the second time you have to be eliminated. How do you think your team will respond to this?

STEPHEN VOGT: Just like we always do. We will be ready to win. These are these guys. Our backs are against the wall, we're playing our best baseball. We don't give up. This team has no end. It's not like this all year round.

It doesn't matter how we played the day before or in the days before that. This team will perform with the same attitude and mindset that they have every day, and that means we will win.
