You may want rain gear for trick-or-treating

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Moisture levels continue to rise thanks to wind flow from the Gulf of Mexico. Now all we need is a trigger for showers and thunderstorms. Unfortunately, it looks like that's what's going to happen as we head into Halloween day.

A cold front will slowly push ESE towards the state. The front is expected to come to a standstill far north of our area. Short-term weather models are a little divided on exactly where the front will stall, which will be important as it relates to the spread of showers and T-storms Thursday evening. It looks like the heaviest and heaviest rain will be Thursday evening.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast for Halloween evening. Therefore, it may be best to have an umbrella or poncho handy for trick-or-treaters in case rain sweeps across your location as you walk.

Jeff Morrow and the WAFB First Alert Weather Team will provide an update on what we're tracking next on Wednesday, October 30th.

The front never makes it through the area and retreats north. This means we won't see any cooling thanks to this front. The southerly wind flow will continue to forecast a chance of showers through the end of the week and into the weekend. The good news is that the chance of rain will be no higher than 30% Friday through Sunday.

Another cold front is likely to hit us mid to late next week. This could increase the chance of rain again. It's still too early to say whether this front will manage to relieve us of the above-average temperatures.
