Young Thug has been released from prison. On Thursday, October 31, the Atlanta rapper entered a no-bargain plea and was sentenced to five years in prison, which was commuted to time served in light of the two years he had already spent behind bars during the course of the case.

At the conclusion of the marathon criminal trial – the longest in Georgia history – Thug pleaded “no contest” to charges of conspiracy and leading a criminal street gang. He also pleaded guilty to three drug charges, two weapons charges and another gang-related charge.

After the defense and prosecution failed to reach an agreement, the judge asked Thugger, born Jeffrey Williams, if he would accept a non-negotiated deal, leaving the sentencing decision up to the judge. After consulting with his lawyer, he agreed and said, “I hope that you will allow me to go home today and trust that I will do the right thing and never see you again.” I promise you, I never will get into such a situation. I walk away having learned from my mistakes – you know, I came from nothing and created something. I didn't take full advantage of it. I'm sorry.”

In addition to the now commuted prison sentence, Thug received 15 years of probation, with additional prison sentences that essentially banned him from the Atlanta metropolitan area for the next ten years, banned him from traveling other than for work, and banned him from having any contact with his fellow YSL-defendants, with the exception of Gunna and his brother. He must also complete 100 hours of community service and give four anti-gang presentations to children per year.

The case began when Thug was first arrested in May 2022 and has since become a veritable legal clown show, with a series of bizarre events including court-ordered homework punishments for bumbling jurors and the use of Thug's song lyrics against him, one Defense attorney will be sentenced to 20 days in prison or more.

What's next for Thug is unknown, but prison time hasn't stopped his musical work: He released the album in June 2023 Business is businesswhich included the Drake song “Parade on Cleveland,” which foreshadowed the celebrations that would take place in Atlanta following his release. While Thug can't attend such a celebration due to his Atlanta ban, at least he can now walk around freely.

The trial isn't quite over yet, as two of Thugger's co-defendants, rapper Yak Gotti and Shannon Stillwell, are charged with murder in the 2015 murder. Further information can be found here Consequenceexplains the original allegations Thug faced.
